How does the grid decide the number of columns? If Layout mode is Automatic the grid adapts to available width; if Fixed you choose the number of columns per row. Can I customize how many buttons appear per row? Yes — in Settings → Layout choose Fixed columns and set the desired count. What happens on small vs large devices? Automatic mode uses sensible defaults for compact and regular size classes; Fixed mode uses your chosen column count.
